On June 5, 1989, while the people and officials were preparing for the funeral and burial of the pure body of Imam Khomeini, in a meeting attended by state and military officials, Ayatollah Khamenei, President, read the political-divine will of Imam Khomeini. . The Assembly of Leadership Experts convened that evening to elect a new leader or leadership council for the Islamic Republic. According to Article 107 of the Constitution approved in 1979, the election of the leadership is the responsibility of the members of the Assembly of Experts [243]. In the discussion of council or individual leadership, the majority of members of the Assembly of Experts did not vote for council leadership, and then when the issue of leadership for voting arose and the name of Ayatollah Khamenei was raised. Some of the deputies, who had received brief information about Imam Khomeini’s view of Ayatollah Khamenei’s authority to lead the regime after the Imam’s death, had expressed brief information in several meetings in the presence of the Chiefs of Staff and the Prime Minister and Haj Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini. Two witnesses quoted by Imam Khomeini, who were themselves members of the Assembly of Experts, confirmed the citation of this opinion to the Imam. Another statement from the Imam about Ayatollah Khamenei’s competence for leadership, which he had expressed during his recent visit to China and North Korea, was also quoted at the meeting. Following that, a vote was held and the overwhelming majority of the members of the Assembly of Experts, considering the opinion of the late Imam and the religious, scientific and political powers of Ayatollah Khamenei, elected His Holiness to lead the Islamic Republic. [244] Ayatollah Khamenei himself referred to this issue, saying that he refused to accept that position until I determined the subject of the election. [245] After reviewing the constitution and holding a referendum, the Assembly of Leadership Experts once again voted on the new constitution under the new constitution, re-electing the overwhelming majority to lead the system.

Some of the main areas of Imam Raheel’s view on Ayatollah Khamenei’s leadership are: the long-term struggle for the realization of the Islamic government, the firm belief in the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic, more than a decade of comprehensive political, executive and cultural activities to establish the Islamic Republic, enlightenment Religious, cited scientific mastery of religious principles, individual and social behavior, asceticism and piety. Imam Khomeini (ra) on various occasions had confirmed the merits, commitment and service of Ayatollah Khamenei in serving the system of the Islamic Republic.

Imam Khomeini said on July 28, 1981, in a part of his message on the occasion of the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei: You are a war teacher and an instructive teacher in the altar and a powerful orator on Fridays and sympathetic congregations and guides on the scene of the revolution. By hurting you, they have hurt the emotions of millions of committed people across the country and around the world. They are so destitute of political vision that immediately after your speeches in the parliament and on Friday and in front of the nation, they committed this crime and assassinated someone whose voice of goodwill and resonance resonates in the ears of the Muslims of the world … I to you Dear Khamenei, I congratulate you on serving the oppressed nation on the battlefield in military uniform and behind the front in clerical uniform, and I ask God Almighty for your health to continue serving Islam and Muslims. “[246] On September 29, 1986, individuals and politicians were advised to be like Ayatollah Khamenei in their speeches, instead of constantly blaming him, who always advises everyone and does not show his services to the people. [247] On December 12, 1987, in response to Ayatollah Khamenei’s letter on the absolute authority of the jurisprudent, they wrote in a part of the letter: I know the ability of the Islamic Republic and I know you as a brother who are familiar with jurisprudential issues and committed to it, and you are very much in favor of the jurisprudential principles related to the absolute authority of the jurisprudent. The sun gives light ”[248].

Hojjat-ul-Islam and Muslims Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini, the closest person to Imam Khomeini, who was his complete advisor and confidant, quoted that the Imam said after Ayatollah Khamenei’s foreign trip: “Al-Haq, he deserves leadership.” [249] Zahra Mostafavi, Imam Khomeini’s daughter, stated that when she asked the Imam about the future leadership of the regime, she mentioned Ayatollah Khamenei, and when she asked Ayatollah Khamenei’s scholarly position, he confirmed Ayatollah Khamenei’s ijtihad. [250] Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani also quoted that when the Imam was trying to remove Ayatollah Montazeri from the future leadership, a meeting was held in the presence of the three leaders, the Prime Minister (Mir Hossein Mousavi) and Haj Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini in the presence of the Imam. They named Ayatollah Khamenei for the future leadership of the system. He also stated that in his private meeting with the late Imam, he expressed concern about the future of the leadership, and the Imam responded by referring to Ayatollah Khamenei: “You will not be in a deadlock, there is such a person among you. Why do you not know yourself? ”[251].

Undoubtedly, the timing of the election of Ayatollah Khamenei as the leader of the regime has been of special importance and sensitivity. Some of the concerns that arose following the illness of Imam Khomeini al-Quds

Were from:
1- Management of the country in the period after Imam Khomeini [252].
2- Incomplete amendment and revision of the constitution
3- Concern about the invasion or military provocations of Iraq, the United States and the hypocrites; Due to the frequent violations of the ceasefire by Iraq and the widespread propaganda to claim victory in the war.
4- Continuation of the crisis resulting from the conspiracy to publish the book of Satanic Verses in the field of foreign policy and the issuance of Imam Khomeini’s verdict on the apostasy of Salman Rushdie, a writer who was met with a stubborn reaction from Western countries. [253]

But what turned all worries into hope were:
1- The election of Ayatollah Khamenei as the leader that took place in the shortest time.
2- Funeral and farewell of millions and unique people with Imam Khomeini (RA) and the formation of the greatest funeral and farewell with a popular leader who, like a huge storm, ruled out the possibility of any conspiracy of the enemy.
3- Confirmation and allegiance of senior officials of the system and various institutions of the country, Beit Imam, imitators and scholars including the great verses of Araki, Marashi Najafi, Ayatollah Mirza Hashem Amoli, Grand Ayatollah Golpayegani and Ayatollah Meshkini, elites, seminary and university personalities, families And different strata of people
4- Hours after the election of Ayatollah Khamenei as the Supreme Leader, Haj Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini sent a congratulatory message to him and stated: I and all the members of the House of Imam sincerely thank the verses of the respected experts; Because we believe that the soul of our dear Imam is happy and calm from this choice. Once again, as a small brotherhood, I consider the orders of the Supreme Leader to be enforceable on myself ”[255].
5- Broad allegiance carried with it the message that the successor of Imam Khomeini, in the field of thought and action, has a firm belief in the way and thought of the Imam and will continue it with all his might. These pledges were made in person, participating in marches, publishing announcements and congratulatory messages, and signing our petition after that [256]. “Covenants with the Imam and allegiance with the leadership” were launched from all over the country on the eve of the 40th day of Imam Khomeini’s demise [257] and “maneuvers of allegiance with the leadership” in some border and strategic areas of the country Imam, allegiance to the leadership “was formed [259]. Allegiance to Ayatollah Khamenei continued months later, proving to the world that Iran, led by Ayatollah Khamenei, remains the flag bearer of the Islamic Ummah.
6- Ayatollah Khamenei explicit and repeated positions on continuing the path of the Imam and maintaining unity and creating mutual trust between the people and leadership and insisting on maintaining the principles of religion, sharia and Islamic jurisprudence, immediate support for the oppressed and deprived and the lower strata of society and creating unity and Solidarity with the oppressed nations and honoring Islam and Muslim nations and not being intimidated by the threats of world powers. Ayatollah Khamenei referred to Imam Khomeini as “the root of the noble lineage of the revolution” and declared: We will continue our path based on the path of Imam Khomeini.
